AND WHEREAS SINCE THAT TIME, THE NUMBER AND, AND UH, STATURE OF CZECH DESCENDANTS LIVING IN TEXAS HAS GROWN TREMENDOUSLY.

THERE ARE NOW WELL OVER 1 MILLION PEOPLE LIVING IN ALL OF THE OF TEXAS, UH, OF AND WALKS OF LIFE THAT CLAIM CHECK HERITAGE.

AND WHEREAS TEXANS OF CZECH ANCESTRY TAKE GREAT PRIDE IN SHARING WITH THE REST OF THE STATE THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS IN THE AREAS OF ART, MUSIC, LITERATURE, FOOD FOLKLORE, AND MANY OTHER FINE CUSTOMS THAT ARE PART OF TEXAS RICH, DIVERSE CULTURE.

AND WHEREAS THIS PRIDE IS DISPLAYED ANNUALLY IN THE MONTH OF OCTOBER BY CZECH HERITAGE SOCIETIES THROUGHOUT THE STATE OF TEXAS, AS, AS THEY STAGE VARIOUS FESTIVALS, SOME OF WHICH HAVE BEEN PASSED DOWN FROM GENERATION TO GENERATION.

WE WERE TOLD THAT A HUNDRED PERCENT OF THE TREES ON THE 24 ACRE PROPERTY WOULD BE RIPPED OUT, REPLACED WITH A GIANT HOLE SURROUNDED BY A HIGH BERM.

A FENCE WOULD ENCIRCLE THE TOP, AND LANDSCAPING WOULD BE PLACED AROUND THE OUTSIDE.

THE PROJECT WAS IMMINENT AND NO PUBLIC COMMENT PERIOD HAD BEEN SCHEDULED OR PLANNED.

WE ASKED ABOUT MITIGATION FOR THE RAILROAD NOISE THAT CURRENTLY IS LARGELY ABSORBED BY THE TREES.

IT WOULD NOW BE AMPLIFIED BY A GIANT HOLE.

NONE HAD BEEN CONSIDERED.

WE ASKED ABOUT THE INCREASED MOSQUITOES, BUT HAVE NOT HEARD HOW THAT PROBLEM WILL BE ALLEVIATED.

WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE RUSH TO WREAK SUCH PERMANENT DESTRUCTION WITHOUT

A FEW DAYS AGO, WE LEARNED THAT THERE WOULD BE NO ELEVATED BERM, BUT IN FACT, JUST THE LARGE HOLE, WE ARE ASSURED IT WILL ALLEVIATE OUR FLOODING ISSUES.

HOWEVER, WE HAVE NOT BEEN SUCCESSFUL IN IMPRESSING UPON THE CITY OF ROSENBERG ROSENBERG THAT OUR NEIGHBORHOOD DOES NOT FLOOD.

IT IS THE NEIGHBORHOODS, SEVERAL NEIGHBORHOODS OVER.

SO WE BELIEVE IT IS BECAUSE OF THE TREES.

MAYBE THE COMBINATION OF THAT WITH THE RAILROAD LEVY.

THEREFORE, TO THE EXTENT IT WILL ALLEVIATE ANY FLOODING AT ALL, WHICH I STILL AM NOT CONVINCED OF, BUT IT WON'T BE OURS.

AS A MATTER OF FACT, IF THE NEW HOLE EVER OVERFLOWS, UM, I FEEL VERY CONCERNED THAT IT WILL, OUR PROPERTIES WILL BE THE FIRST ONES FLOODED.

WE ARE TOLD THAT A DRAINAGE STUDY HAD SHOWED THE PROJECT WOULD STORE MILLIONS OF GALLONS OF WATER DURING THE FLOOD EVENT.

I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE A COPY OF THAT DRAINAGE STUDY.

DOES IT SHOW WHERE IT'S GOING TO DRAIN TO? FOR EXAMPLE, WHAT IF THE, IT IS SUPPOSED TO GO TO THE RIVER? WHAT IF THE RIVER BACKS UP? UM, SO THERE'S A LOT OF QUESTIONS THERE.

UH, SO I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE VALUE OF TREES IN A FLOOD EVENT, AND IS THE COUNCIL WHERE A SINGLE TREE CAN STORE A HUNDRED GALLONS OF WATER OR MORE? SO A 24 ACRE FORESTED LOT.

I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY TREES ARE THERE ANYWHERE BETWEEN FIVE AND 25,000.

SO WE'RE TALKING ABOUT MAYBE A MILLION, COUPLE MILLION GALLONS OF WATER ALREADY BEING STORED THERE BY LEAVING THE TREES INTACT.

UM, THERE'S OTHER POSSIBILITIES THAT COULD HAVE BEEN DISCUSSED OR SHOULD BE DISCUSSED.

THEY ALSO HAVE REFORESTATION AND THEY ALSO RETAIN A LOT OF TREES.

THEY HAVE ONE PROJECT THAT HAS 300 FEET OF TREES AROUND IT.

SO I DON'T THINK THAT THIS IS OUR ONLY OPTION TO DIG A GIANT HOLE AND RIP OUT ALL THE TREES.

I THINK THAT THEY, THE TREES, UH, PROVIDE A LOT OF VALUE AND WITHOUT THE TREE COVER, THAT GRASS IS GONNA HARDEN.

WE HAVE A LONG DRY HOT SUMMERS RIGHT BEFORE HURRICANE SEASON, SO THAT'S, TO ME IS NOT GONNA RETAIN ANYTHING.
